For all of the following states (European Union), the registration of a European Union design, the so-called EU design, can be applied for:

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

Avantage of an EU design application:
The application is filed in one language and the registration process is carried out centrally and in one language. The costs are therefore significantly lower than for a corresponding number of national applications.

In the event of special circumstances, an (unregistered) EU design protection may originate.
